Blockley

Sarah Keay-Bright

Sarah Keay-Bright stood as the Liberal Democrat candidate for Blockley in the CDC elections on May 5 2011 and achieved 40% of the vote.

She lives in Blockley with her husband and young children and is an active member of the Parish Council.

Sarah says,“The villages of the Blockley Parish are some of the most beautiful places in the world to live. We are absolutely privileged to be here and have a duty to protect its legacy for future generations. I take this responsibility very seriously and believe that any Parish representative should do everything they can to ensure that the quality of life of the parish is protected and where possible enhanced.”

“In a Parish such as ours where time stands still and where the existence of the villages is very much in harmony with its surroundings, little change is needed. To protect the Parish from the constant pressures resulting from  the negative aspects of modern development, population growth and globalisation, active and strong representation is sometimes needed.”

“But there are areas where action for change is necessary to keep up with the modern world of which we are part and to secure a positive long term future for the Parish. If everyone on the planet lived like the average UK citizen,we would need several planets. I therefore strongly promote the sustainability agenda and my pledge to the residents of Blockley Parish is based on my intentions for real action in the following areas:

Financial/economic:

  • making sure that we get best value for every pound spent by Cotswold District Council by exercising detailed scrutiny and benchmarking performance against better performing Councils.
  • by supporting appropriate and sustainable business development and entrepreneurship in the Parish.

Environmental:

  • by making the waste service more efficient with a long term objective and action plan for achieving zero waste to landfill
  • by enabling businesses, community buildings and households to drastically cut their energy bills and to work with Parish residents to bring about zero carbon energy generation for the Parish in the most appropriate and sustainable way.

Social:

  • sustaining and building on the vibrant and strong community spirit of the Parish by:
  • supporting existing organisations and groups upon which the Community depend
  • enabling greater participation, particularly of new residents and second home owners.
