There is no ‘one size fits all’ when it comes to being politically active: some people just want to make a small donation, whilst others will be out campaigning until the soles of their shoes need replacing!
As Liberal Democrats we are strong believers in Community Politics –this means politics which starts on your local streets, led by local people.
Where do you fit in?
Getting involved doesn’t just mean standing for election or attending local party meetings…We grow as a party by the new people who join us and the range of talents they bring. In the Liberal Democrats there is a place for every view, every skill and every person who believes in freedom and fairness.
An example of some of the things we do are:
- Fundraising Events – whether it is a Politics & Pizza night,a blacktie evening or a booksale we always need new and exciting ways to raise money to pay for our Focus leaflets, office costs, and expanding what we do.
- Community Campaigns – is there something which annoys you,or could be better where you live? Do you have an idea for something that would improve your community? From pot-holes to parks, recycling to youth groups we are local champions and work with local communities to make a difference.
- Recruiting New Members - an important part of spreading our message is getting more people involved! You don’t have to be a party member to have a chat, come to an event and see if this is the party for you.
For those who have a strong interest in politics the Liberal Democrats are the most open and democratic of the main parties. Our members have the opportunity to attend Conference, and contribute to national policy. Cotswolds Liberal Youth member Sean Davey spoke at a debate on Equal Marriage at Autumn Conference 2010,this motion was passed and became Liberal Democrat party policy, and is now being explored by Equalities Minister Lynne Featherstone MP before becoming government legislation.
