Riversmeet

Laura Watts stood as the candidate in Riversmeet ward for the Cotswold District Council elections on May 5, 2011.

She lives in Great Barrington with her husband and three sons who go to the local village school in Sherborne. Laura is a parent governor there and also chairman of the school PTA called Friends of Sherborne School.

Laura says, “Before our move to the Cotswolds we lived in Amsterdam for 10 years where I learnt Dutch and a great deal about community living and joined up government.  Coalitions are the norm in the Netherlands and local life seems to progress smoothly there with sensible decisions being made for the benefit of all.”

“I joined the Liberal Democrats when I was a student studying politics and Russian. I’m no longer willing to just sit back and tut at the TV. I hate red tape and I don’t like banning things. I think local government should be about improving peoples’ lives but not meddling in them.”

“I vote whenever I get the chance and feel lucky to live in a society where this is possible, particularly being a woman.”
