Cllr Joe Harris

Town & District Councillor

I was born in Cirencester and have lived in the Park Ward for most of my life. I attended Powells School, Deer Park School and then Cirencester College.

At 18, I’m the youngest councillor in the UK and I have decided to make a stand for what I believe in after being the victim of a mugging in Cirencester. Since then, I’ve been fighting for the victims of crime to be heard and to ensure anti-social behaviour is dealt with effectively.

I think Cotswold District Council should be ashamed that they have simply ignored anti-social behaviour and it is left to voluntary schemes to combat it on Friday and Saturday nights in particular and the already over streched police force.

I’m also appalled that Cotswold District Council cut the town’s CCTV monitoring hours by half in 2009 without consulting or telling residents.

I have been a Young Leader at the Cyber Cafe for four years now. I do this voluntarily and it’s vital to give young people a safe place to meet in Cirencester. More needs to be done in Cirencester to meet the needs of young people.

Cllr Lee Searles

Town & District Councillor

I am a Park Ward resident, having lived in Chesterton Park for five and a half years, with my children attending local schools.  I am an active member of the district, chairing the Park Neighbourhood Community Group as well as the “Our Future Cirencester Sustainable Transport Group” which is an initiative run by Cirencester Town Council.

I represent the community of Park Ward at the Cotswold District Council as I want to bring change into the CDC which I feel, under its current leadership, is ignoring Cirencester, acting as a disinterested onlooker to what should be at the heart of everything that is happening to improve Cirencester economically, socially and environmentally.

I have joined the Liberal Democrats in my search to bring such change as I believe that it is the only answer to the violent swings from left to right that get the country nowhere, and it is the only party that is committed to gaining electoral reform that will benefit every member of the public.  Aside from this I have always liked the ability of the Liberal Democrats to promote innovative ideas which find their way into legislation.

I also think that political parties should agree at times. No one party can have a monopoly on the truth. Politics needs to be grown up and not loutish and tribal. The Liberal Democrats know this.
